Events this summer at the Cape
Boat/Seal Tours
Less than a mile from the Carriage House Inn sits Beachcomber Tours—an <
assembly of charming yellow bay boats that offers “Boat to the Beach”
rides
as well as seal watching excursions during the summer months. Every 15
minutes boats ferry guests from Chatham's Municipal Fishing Pier across
the
water to what is considered the “best beach to get away from the
crowds.” A
perfect spot with a semi-private beach feel for walks, shell hunting,
picnics and quiet time. Rates are $12.00 for adults and $8.00 for kids
(12
and under). And for the more adventurous visitor, reserve a seat for a
seal
watching trip. These 1 ½ hour excursions cruise the local waterways in
search of members of the gray colony of seals. Thought to have more
than
1,200 members in the colony off the coast of the Cape, you're almost
guaranteed to find them frolicking somewhere! $22 for adults, $16 for
kids
(Ages 3-15, kids under 3 are permitted for free). For more information,
visit www.sealwatch.com.
Chocolate, Chocolate, Chocolate!
What would summer be without sweet treats? And no better way to satisfy
a
sweet tooth than with chocolate! Just a mile from the Carriage House
Inn,
Naomi Turner, owner of the Chatham Candy Manor, churns out some of the
country's most famous fudge, truffles and cranberry cordials. Opened in
1955, this chocolatier maintains the integrity of the old-school
chocolate
company by creating chocolates of distinction and character. Loyal to
their
neighbor, the Carriage House Inn loves to keep Chatham Candy Manor
products
on-hand for those special occasions with guests like anniversaries and
birthdays. Carriage House Inn owner Paula Miller's favorite Chatham
Candy
Manor indulgence is the chocolate seal filled with Bailey's Cream
cordials.

Summer Recipe
Spiced Berry Syrup
Light and refreshing! Carriage House Inn owners Tim & Paula Miller use
this
flavorful syrup to drizzle over fresh sliced mixed fruit for a
delectable
breakfast starter or later in the day for a sweet treat—it makes for a
delicious ice cream topping.
2 Cups Frozen Mixed Berries
½ Cup Sugar
¾ Cup Water
2 Whole Cloves
1 Cinnamon stick
1 Green Cardamom Pod (Optional)
Sliced fresh mixed fruit of your choice. Place all ingredients in a
medium
saucepan and bring to a boil, stir a couple of times to dissolve the
sugar.
Reduce heat and simmer for 25-30 minutes. Discard cinnamon stick. Strain
into a bowl pressing on solids. You will have a small amount of solids
left
over which can be thrown out. Chill. Drizzle about 1 tablespoon over
sliced
fresh mixed fruit. Can be kept covered and refrigerated for up to one
week.
Makes About 1 cup.
